Our “NEW” Wilderness EMT is the comprehensive, evidence-based, urban, and wilderness medicine course that prepares the student to handle injury and illness from city streets to the world’s wild and remote places.  In 2020 we built a Hybrid system integrating Online Lessons and ZOOM Classes, with classic In-Class Lessons.  This format creates more productive ways to cover Cognitive information and save Skills and Scenarios for in-person review sessions. You will be taught how to assess and care for patients with improvised tools, how to rescue someone from deep in the woods, and then climb into the ambulance and know how to work in the back of the truck.  From emergencies to staying healthy in the wilderness, students learn to assess people in challenging conditions, handle life threats of airway, respiratory, and circulatory problems, stop bleeds, long-term wound care, sprains, strains, fractures, head/spine injury, cold/heat injuries, bites, stings, altitude problems, dive injuries, organizing a backcountry rescue, and much more.  Students learn the predictable and preventable behaviors that are the usual cause of sick and injured folks.  Leadership and wilderness rescue are woven in as an integral part of preparedness and response.

Our courses are taught by people who have done what they teach.  We teach “practicable principles” and not just on what to do, but how to do it. Simultaneously you will be learning about the urban landscape of EMS, how the system is built, and what it is like to work in the ambulance.  All students spend time working in clinical settings and ambulances.

The “Hybrid/Immersion” schedule allows the student to move through the training process full-time, completing the 170+ hour curriculum in just 2 weeks rather than 3+ month programs.   More importantly, because the student completes the course more quickly, they are available for service or employment sooner. There are 17 Online Lessons that cover 27 topics that students can watch on their schedules at home with 2 pre-course ZOOM Classes.

This is an NHBEMS approved course, upon successful completion students are to take the WEMT written and Practical exams, which will qualify them for the National Registry (NREMT) Computer-Based and NH/NR Practical Exams giving them both urban and wilderness certifications.  The NREMT certification is recognized in all of New England and most of the US.
